Kate Willard (she/her/hers) is a theater director, writer, educator, and occasional clown based in both France and Vermont.  Her work has played in France, Greece, Russia, and the United States.  Kate's highly physical approach to theater tends towards the fantastic, grotesque, and absurd.

 

Kate holds a B.A. in drama from Vassar College and a Masters from the École Jacques Lecoq in Paris.  She was awarded both the Walter Maguire Fellowship (2021) and the Jeanne Marandon Fellowship (2022) to study movement and mime in France.  She has also studied with SITI Company, the Moscow Art Theater School, One Year Lease and The Orchard Project.

Directing credits include original devised works and adaptations, such as Terry’s Cars and Automobiles, If You Give A Witch A Bath, OrfeoThe Jabberwock, Le Quai de Brumes (after the film by Michel Carné), and Three Overly Educated Cats (after Chekhov). She has also directed works such as Iphigénie ou le Péché des dieux (Michel Azama), The Sandalwood Box (Mac Wellman), and The Goblins Plot to Murder God (Mark O'Donnell).   

As an educator, she specializes in movement analysis and mime, new work creation, and puppetry.  She has led theater workshops and classes in Vermont, France, and Poughkeepsie, NY.
